Raising the Rent profile
By JOHN COULBOURN -- Toronto Sun
Things were shaking on the Rent front
yesterday, with the Mirvish organization making several
announcements about the hit musical playing at the Royal
Alexandra Theatre.
Rent's Toronto run, which was slated to end May 3, has now been
extended to July 26, with tickets for the new block on sale,
March 9.
After its Toronto closing, the musical then heads to Ottawa's
National Arts Centre, where it will open July 28 as part of
Festival Canada '98.
Following an Ottawa run, the musical heads for Vancouver's Vogue
Theatre, where it is slated to open in September. Sources
indicate that the national tour may also include stops in
Edmonton, Regina and possibly even Montreal, where the cast
would, of course, perform en francais.
In other Rent news, Canadian Saskia Garel replaces Krysten
Cummings in the Toronto production, as Mimi, on March 11.
Cummings, who originated the role here in Toronto, is bound for
England, where she will play Mimi in the West End premiere of
Rent.
